Corrections policy

Found a calculation, source or explanation that looks wrong? Help us reproduce it and put it right.

Report an error

Email hello@taxfly.co.uk with “TaxFly correction” in the subject. Include:

  • The page URL and the sentence or result you are querying.
  • For a calculator, the inputs, tax year and UK nation selected. Use example figures if your actual figures are sensitive.
  • The result you expected and a link to the relevant HMRC guidance or other primary source, if available.

Never send your National Insurance number, UTR, login details, bank details or a full tax return. We do not need them to investigate a public calculator or guide.

How we investigate

We aim to reply within a few working days. We check whether the report concerns an incorrect rule, an implementation error, an unclear explanation or a difference in assumptions. For calculations, this means reproducing the inputs and comparing the working with the official source for that tax year. Reports that could change a reader's tax result take priority over spelling and presentation issues.

If more information is needed, we ask for the missing example or source. If we cannot reproduce the problem, we explain the assumptions used rather than treating the absence of a reproduced error as proof the page is correct.

How a correction is published

A material correction should explain what was wrong, what changed and which circumstances were affected. Staff can record that explanation as a review note displayed on the guide or calculator. A completed review records the reviewer and the date of that check. We do not backdate reviews or add one merely because an author was assigned.

Changes to spelling or layout do not imply a new technical review. Where a calculation error affects shared rules, the check must cover other affected tools as well as the reported page. Automated regression checks help prevent the same error returning, but are not a professional review.

If you relied on a result

Recheck your inputs and the relevant official guidance. TaxFly cannot access your HMRC account or amend a return. If a filing or payment may be affected, contact HMRC or your tax adviser. Our tools provide estimates and general information; see the disclaimer.

Escalating a concern

If our reply does not address your report, reply to the same email with “Complaint” in the subject and explain the unresolved point. Our contact page sets out the complaints process.
