What this checks
14 rules, covering the reliefs and charges people most often miss. Each result names the rule that triggered it, how confident we are, what evidence HMRC would want, and the exact route to claim.
The three kinds of result
- Owed to you — overpaid or unclaimed, and usually backdatable four years.
- Available to you — a decision still open this tax year, stated as what the rule does rather than what you should do.
- Worth knowing about — a charge or obligation you may not know about, like the High Income Child Benefit Charge. Showing these is what makes the rest believable.
Questions people ask
How far back can I claim?
Most reliefs backdate four tax years, which is why a first check is usually worth several times the annual figure. Marriage Allowance and employment expenses both work this way.
Do I need to connect my bank?
No. The reliefs people most commonly miss — Marriage Allowance, higher-rate pension relief, a wrong tax code, the 60% band — are not visible in a transaction feed. They come from your situation, which is what the questions ask about.
Do you store my answers?
Not unless you create an account. Until then the answers stay in your own browser, and nothing is sent to us.
Is this tax advice?
No. It shows how the published rules apply to the figures you enter, and names the rule behind every result. It cannot see the rest of your circumstances, so it is worth checking anything material with an accountant.
Work a number out properly
The check estimates. When you want the exact figure, use the calculator or the decision tool behind it — the decision tools compare every option on your own numbers, and the calculators cover 205 specific questions. Find money you are owed covers the non-tax money as well: lost pensions, dormant accounts and unclaimed Child Trust Funds.
